Focus On: Kindergarten Students at Brockman Montessori!

Published Sunday, December 07, 2008 by Julia H Davis in Brockman | SMART boards
5 year olds are using SMART boards!!
I have been working with all 4 Kindergarten classes at Brockman lately.  The school currently has 2 SMART boards, one in the music room and one in the science lab.  Since the teachers don't have them in the classroom, the students don't get to use the boards on a daily basis.
We have had a blast learning!  Many of the students had not touched a SMART board before, so it was my goal to have every student touch the board.  And guess what, they did!
Last week we reviewed letters, counted items, and added objects.  All of the objects used in this lesson were holiday related.

I would love to come work with your students and the SMART board.  If you would like to plan lessons with me or learn more about your board, contact me at judavis@richlandone.org

Happy SMART boarding!

Using Kerpoof in the Classroom

Published Friday, December 05, 2008 by Julia H Davis in Web2.0 Tools | High School | Middle School | Elementary School
During the last week in October, I traveled to Seattle for the National School Board Association Technology & Learning Conference. I am always looking for "celebrities" when I travel, and I found another one! Krista Marks, the CEO of Kerpoof, was attending the conference and visited with us one night.
Mrs. Marks is USC-Columbia alumni.  It was so wonderful to meet someone that is a "hometown hero" and has created a Web2.0 tool that I use and love.  It is encouraging to hear about local folks that can make a big difference.
Kerpoof is a multimedia tool that can be used at any grade level.  Students or teachers can create cartoon-like cards, movies, storybooks, and pages.  There is an education section in Kerpoof where you can find downloadable lesson plans and samples.
If you are interested in learning more about Kerpoof, please contact me.  I would love to come visit with you and your students!
